Students with special needs at the University of Ghana are appealing to the Government of Ghana hearken to their plight and hasten the payment of their bursaries and scholarships to avert a massive protest from them.

A representative of the students with disabilities at Ghana’s premier University, Ellah Ametor Korku Avumatsodo lamented in an interview with Blakk Rasta on the 3FM Urban Blend show that their education is at stake due to their inability to access the government’s financial support to pay their fees.

“The thing is we have some bursaries and scholarships they give to special students in all universities in Ghana, but this year, the special needs students don’t have their bursaries and scholarships paid.”

“We are even lucky that this semester, they have extended the resumption date like most of us wouldn’t be able to pay the school fees” he said.

According to him, the frequent visits by their leadership to the scholarship secretariat to ascertain when their bursaries and scholarships are going to be paid have yielded no positive feedback.

“Our executives have told us that on several occasions they have been to the Scholarship Secretariat to find out how far, but still they are not giving them any feedback so they want us to let the government and public know that if things are not put in place, they may see us on the streets.”

“So we are pleading with them that if things are not done, you will see that person with disabilities, special needs students of the University of Ghana will hit the road as soon as possible” Ametor iterated.
