The 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), has disclosed that it is reviewing a petition it received from rapper Amerado’s team for excluding his ‘Kwaku Ananse‘ from the Most Popular Song of the Year category.
Amerado took to X, formerly Twitter, to ask why ‘Kwaku Ananse’ was not nominated when the nominee lists for the Awards 25th edition were announced on March 28, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
TGMA’s Head of Public Events and Communications, Robert Klah, in an interview with Accra-based Hitz FM, disclosed that a formal petition was submitted by Amerado’s team which is currently under review.
He indicated that the song will be added to the Most Popular Song of the Year category if the petition is justified after the review.
“Amerado’s team has directly reached out to us regarding the exclusion of ‘Kwaku Ananse’ from the Most Popular Song of the Year category. He has submitted his petition. The board will deliberate on that, and if it is deemed justified, his song will be included.”
He also urged other artists with similar concerns to follow Amerado’s suits to have those concerns addressed.
“If you strongly believe that you should be included, we are fully receptive to your concerns. Reach out to us, and let’s address any necessary corrections and clarifications.”
