Amid public discussions over Sarkodie’s nomination for “Messiah” in the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), Charter House has provided clarity on the newly introduced “Swing Period” policy. The initiative is designed to ensure songs released late in the year are fairly considered for nominations.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Robert Klah, Head of Public Relations and Communications, “The Board of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards has introduced the Swing Period policy to ensure that outstanding songs released late in the year receive fair consideration within the awards scheme.” To qualify, a song must be released in December, have demonstrated measurable impact, and not have been nominated in the previous edition.

The 27th TGMA has already seen two songs benefit from this policy: “Messiah” by Sarkodie featuring Kweku Flick, and “Excellent” by Kojo Blak featuring Kelvyn Boy. Both tracks gained significant traction following their December release, illustrating the type of work the Swing Period aims to recognize.
Charter House highlighted that the policy reflects TGMA’s commitment to recognizing excellence across the industry. “As the music industry continues to evolve with changing release cycles, digital consumption patterns, and global audience dynamics, TGMA remains committed to refining its processes to ensure deserving works receive recognition,” the statement reads.
