African giants Asante Kotoko are set to name a new Chief Executive Officer in place of George Amoako whose fate has been decided by the new board of directors, Ghana Sports Online can exclusively report.

Amoako was appointed CEO of the Porcupine Warriors in August 2018 but the new Board of Directors outdoored last week are convinced the time is ripe for the Ghana FA Executive Council member to be shown the exit door.

Manhyia, Asante Kotoko’s monarchical home, unveiled a 9-member board headed by businessman Dr Kwame Kyei who has steered affairs of the club for the past three years.

With the new board apparently not in favour of retaining George Amoako, three football administrators are strongly lobbying to take the berth as the highest ranking executive officer in the club.

#1 – FREDERICK ACHEAMPONG

The outspoken young administrator is among the maiden names that surfaced in Kumasi almost a month ago after it became apparent that George Amoako will be striped off his position at the club. Acheampong, popularly known in football circles as ‘Achee’, parted ways with Kotoko’s regional rivals AshantiGold in the last week of April in 2020 for reasons unknown to the football public.

Frederick Acheampong left AshantiGold in April and is now clubless

Achee was voted onto the Ghana FA Executive Council as a Premier League representative on the cards of the AshantiGold but his departure from the Miners means he is clubless and is impatiently hunting for a new constituency in football.

His fine resume includes working as a match coordinator for the Confederation of African football, CAF, and has helped organise several CAF inter-club competitions games like TP Mazembe vrs Ismaily, Gor Mahia vrs RS Berkane (Confederation CUp quarter final final), Enyimba vrs Raja Casablanca (Confederation Cup semi final) just to mention a few.

Achee has worked with clubs like New Edubiase United who are now playing in the Ghanaian second-tier division.

Meanwhile in a recent broadcast with Accra-based Happy FM he strongly criticised the current structures at Kotoko and labelled it as the bane of the club. This means Acheampong doesn’t believe the current structures of the club will guide the Porcupine Warriors to success.

#2 – NANA YAW AMPONSAH

Probably shocked at the name? Yes? The Phar Ranger President is also in the offing as he has joined the league of top administrators who are lobbying to claim the position as a new era of the club is set to be rolled up. The 2019 Ghana FA Presidential elections losing candidate has already been touting his credentials to a faction of the new board membership as he is directly going for the top job to maintain his relevance in high level club management.

This comes as a surprise to the football publics in Ghana as the young administrator has soft spots for Kotoko’s sworn rivals Hearts of Oak. Several media reports carried by reputable portals such 442gh.com, Ghanaweb.com, Modernghana.com, Ghanasoccernet.com, Kickgh.com and Ghanasportsonline.com have all linked the ‘smart’ administrator to the Hearts of Oak job though he officially denied such reports.

Meanwhile Ghana Sports checks can confirm that Amponsah has been present at some recent Hearts of Oak yearly anniversary celebrations and even funded some items on the bill including their anniversary cake.

Amponsah was playing a leading role in the organisation of the match between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko which was supposed to be staged in London to mark Ghana’s independence anniversary but faced cancellation due to the COVID-19.

#3 – NANA GYAMBIBI COKER

During Achee’s recent interview on Happy FM he subtly punched his direct competitor by saying: “Along the line they had a special assistant to the Executive Chairman in the person of Nana Gyambibi but they changed his position to become General Manager even when they had CEO.” Nana Coker has worked closely with the Board Chairman of the club Dr Kwame Kyei acting in several steads.

It is strongly believed that he is favoured candidate of the three as the board chairman feels comfortable working with him on several fronts. Despite being young in club football administration Coker is learning fast at his new position and is regarded by many as a young passionate administrator who has the capacity to drive Kotoko to higher levels as he has headed several initiatives and take some key decisions at the club.
