Golf superstar Tiger Woods is at the centre of a dramatic crash scandal after being arrested and charged with driving under the influence following a terrifying rollover accident in Florida.
The 15-time major champion was hauled off to jail after his car flipped onto its side while attempting to overtake a trailer at high speed in his hometown. Shocking images from the scene showed the wrecked vehicle lying on the driver’s side after sliding across the road.
Police say the incident happened just after 2pm on Friday, with officers quickly arriving to find Woods appearing “lethargic” and showing signs of impairment.
Despite blowing zero on a breathalyser test, authorities claim the golf legend refused to provide a urine sample — landing him with additional charges of refusal to submit to a lawful test, along with property damage.
Sheriff John Budensiek revealed that Woods underwent multiple roadside tests, with officers suspecting he may have been impaired by medication rather than alcohol.
“He did a breathalyser test with triple zeros,” the sheriff said, “but refused further testing, and that’s why he has been charged.”
Investigators also allege Woods was driving at high speed on a 30mph road before losing control, causing the vehicle to tip over and slide a considerable distance.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported — including the driver of the other vehicle involved.
Woods is expected to remain in custody for at least eight hours before becoming eligible for release on bond. The charges are not classified as felonies, but the incident has sent shockwaves through the sporting world.
