Top Ghanaian artistes miss out 2019 BET Awards nomination after 8 years (Check out full list)

Nominees for the 2019 BET awards have been announced and no Ghanaian act has made it to the award scheme for the first time in the past eight years.

In 2018, Kwesi Arthur was the only Ghanaian nominated for the BETs in the category of Best New International act. Stonebwoy was nominated in 2017 among the likes of Davido, Aka, Mr Eazi and Nasty C, for the best international act, which saw the “if” singer winning the award.

Lynx Entertainment signee, MzVee, was also nominated in 2016 and Stonebwoy won it in 2015 after beating competition from, Sarkodie, Wizkid, Yemi Alade and others.

Nigeria’s Davido won it in 2014 when he was nominated alongside Sarkodie, Tiwa Savage, Mafikizol among others. Nigeria’s Ice Prince was crowned the winner in 2013 after being nominated with R2bees, 2 Face Idibia among others.

King Sark was the first Ghanaian to win a BET award in 2012 after D Black was the first Ghanaian to be nominated in 2011. Therefore, Ghana missing in the list this year makes it the first time eight years no Ghanaian act has been nominated for the BETs.

In the 2019’s nominees announced some hours ago by the organizers, Nigeria’s Mr Eazi and Burna Boy, with South Africa’s Aka, Aya Nakamura (France), Dave (U.K.), Dosseh (France) and Giggs (U.K.), were the musicians nominated for the Best International Act category.

Cardi B topped the list this year with 7 nominations, followed by Drake with 5 nominations. See the full list below.
