The Ablekuma West branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to the security services, especially the Ghana Police Service, to treat anyone seen vandalising state property, forceful takeover, and seizure in the name of the party as hoodlums and criminals.
According to the Constituency executives, the party has not commissioned anyone or group of people to move into any government institution to retrieve, take over, or protect any institution.
Addressing the media on some disturbance that occurred in the constituency, involving the invasion of the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly office, the attack and vandalisation of the outgoing Member of Parliament office and home, the NDC Constituency Chairman, Mr. Bright Mawuli Ahuto, denied any involvement of members of the NDC.
He explained that the fact that the hoodlums were seen wearing NDC T-shirts doesn’t mean they are members of the NDC.
According to Mr. Ahuto, upon hearing the news of the attack and vandalism, he and his executives went to the scene to get firsthand information, and from the descriptions given by eyewitnesses and videos seen on social media, it points to the fact that the attackers were not members of the NDC.
The Ablekuma West NDC Constituency Chairman has therefore called on the police service to investigate and arrest the perpetrators who attacked and vandalised the office and home of the outgoing MP, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuffu, and the Municipal Assembly stores.
He has thus advised supporters of the NDC to desist from any such act.
According to him, the NDC is not a violent party and does not support, endorse, or encourage any kind of violence, lawlessness, or activities that may cause harm or damage to life and property.
“Anyone who takes the law into his own hands must be strong enough to carry the weight of the law.
The police, however, must also not sleep on its responsibilities because a party has won power,” he added.
