Ghanaians and music lovers around the world are mourning the passing of legendary guitarist and composer Ebo Taylor, who has died at age 90
Widely celebrated as a visionary musician, Taylor played a pivotal role in shaping modern Ghanaian music through his sophisticated fusion of traditional Fante rhythms, highlife, and American jazz, influencing generations across Africa and beyond.

Announcing his passing on Instagram, organizers of EBOFEST described him as “a musical titan, cultural architect, and one of Africa’s greatest gifts to the world.” The statement noted that after celebrating his 90th birthday and launching EBOFEST , a historic event that brought admirers from around the world to Ghana to honor his legacy Taylor “peacefully transitioned, surrounded by love, music, and the spirit of unity he spent his life building.”
More than a musician, Ebo Taylor is remembered as a mentor and cultural bridge whose rhythms and melodies carried Ghanaian stories across continents.
