Health Authorities in Bongo in the Upper East Region have quarantined and are monitoring two persons suspected to have contracted the deadly Coronavirus.

Samples of 45-year-old Moses Aniah and Baba Asarawiah, age 25 have been taken for testing for the Coronavirus.

According to Health Authorities in the District, Moses Aniah, a Ghanaian based in the UK from Zorko in the Bongo District landed at the Kotoka International Airport on Saturday March 21, 2020 after flying from UK to India and Dubai before arriving in Ghana.

They explained that the returnee was not mandatorily quarantined in Accra because he arrived before the new measure on mandatory quarantine took effect. He was accompanied on Wednesday to Bongo-Zorko by his friend Baba Asarawiah who has also be quarantined.

Bongo District Director of Health, Stephen Bordotsiah told press men on Thursday that upon a tip-off about the two travelling from Accra to Bolgatanga and having had information that Moses Aniah had come in from a high risk country, a joint team of health workers and security personnel were dispatched to fish them out.

“They boarded a tricycle (Cando) with three other persons to their house in Zorko before the health team picked them up.  And everybody who has been in touch with them is in self-isolation. We are tracing the rider of the tricycle they came with. One other person whom we have contacted is currently in self-isolation but one Burkina Faso lady who was also on board entered Burkina Faso and cannot be traced,” he said.

He indicated that the two have not shown any symptoms of the disease adding that “We are also following up to the O.A station for details of all passengers on the bus they came with for contact tracing. Samples of the two have been sent to Kumasi for testing and hopefully by close of day tomorrow Friday, March 27, 2020 the results will be out. But even if they test negative, they will still be quarantined for the mandatory 14 days before they are discharged.”
