The Interim Financial Secretary of the University of Media, Arts and Communication – Institute of Journalism (UniMAC-IJ), Emmanuel Nyarku Quarshie, has announced plans to hold a financial briefing to address growing student concerns over the SRC’s expenditure report.

Speaking to Ghana Weekend‘s Sally Quaicoe on Tuesday September 2, Quarshie disclosed that the briefing is scheduled for today, September 3, 2025, and will be held strictly online due to space limitations.

“The financial briefing will be strictly virtual because it will be done in the SRC office and there won’t be enough space for audience. The exact time will be communicated ahead of the session,” he explained.

The announcement follows a wave of student anger and disappointment after the release of the SRC’s financial statement, which revealed heavy spending on souvenirs, entertainment, and allowances leaving a closing balance of just ₵7,279.17 out of an improved ₵223,380.52 that the council had at the beginning of the second semester.

While some students welcome the decision to address their concerns, others remain skeptical, questioning whether the briefing will bring genuine accountability or simply attempt to pacify an already frustrated student body.
