A former student of Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, has been named West Africa’s Best Business Student at the latest West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Distinction Awards.
The honoree, Eric Aduamoah, earned the recognition after emerging as the top-performing candidate in Business during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates across the sub-region.
The prestigious award forms part of the annual WAEC Distinction Awards, which recognise students who demonstrate outstanding academic ability in the WASSCE across West Africa.
The awards are designed to honour exceptional academic performance while encouraging students to pursue higher goals.
It also aims to motivate students and schools across the region to strive for excellence in WASSCE performance.
Mr Aduamoah, who is currently studying BSc Administration at the University of Ghana, achieved A1 grades in all the subjects he sat for during the examination.
His achievement earned him several prizes from various organisations and institutions.
From the Ghana National Office of WAEC, he received the cedi equivalent of US400 dollars. Additional prizes included a dictionary from Kingdom Books and Stationery, a cheque for GH¢10,000 from Manjigo Company Limited, and a laptop presented by Jay Kay Enterprises.
A commemorative plaque was also presented to PRESEC-Legon in recognition of the school’s role in nurturing the award-winning student.
The recognition adds to the growing list of academic achievements associated with the institution, widely regarded as one of the country’s most accomplished secondary schools.
Founded in 1938 under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast, PRESEC-Legon has developed a reputation for academic excellence, strong Presbyterian discipline and consistent high performance in national and international competitions.
The school, a premier all-male boarding institution located in Accra, continues to produce top results in the WASSCE and other academic contests.
During the school’s 87th Speech and Prize-Giving Day held in November 2025, 47 students from the 2024 WASSCE batch were honoured with laptops and certificates after obtaining exceptional results of eight A1 grades.
PRESEC-Legon is also widely recognised for its dominance in the National Science and Maths Quiz, where it holds the record for the highest number of championships, having won the competition eight times.
The latest WAEC award further strengthens the school’s reputation as a leading second-cycle institution.
