Ghanaian-Romanian musician Emmanuel Owusu-Bonsu, popularly known as Wanlov the Kubolor, says he does not create music with a particular audience in mind — unless the project specifically demands it.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM on Wednesday, November 13, Wanlov explained that his creative process is mostly personal and spontaneous rather than guided by market expectations or audience preferences.

“When I’m making music, it’s really something that just changes me,” he said. “I don’t really think about a target audience unless it’s for a specific project.”

The outspoken artiste, known for his free-spirited and unconventional approach to art, revealed that he and his sister, Sister Deborah, are currently planning a new project aimed at educating young children about environmental and social issues.

“We want to do something about the environment — about littering, about pollution — just to sensitise the kids,” he shared.

He clarified that while this upcoming project will have a clear audience, most of his other works, including his collaborations with long-time musical partner Mensah, are created purely for self-expression.

“When I make music with Mensah, we just do it for ourselves,” Wanlov said. “I’ll see something, Mensah will laugh, he’ll see something, I’ll laugh — and we record those things.”
