We always tried our best -Tariq Lamptey on Ghana’s World Cup campaign

Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey has intimated that the team worked hard to progress from the group phase of the 2022 World Cup but were unfortunately unsuccessful due to the competence of their opponents.

Ghana narrowly lost their first game to Portugal but bounced back with a hard-fought victory over South Korea which presented them with an opportunity to progress to the knockout stages if they had avoided a defeat in their third game against Uruguay.

However, the team saw their exit after losing to the South Americans.

Lamptey who was part of the squad at the World Cup has asserted that the team were eager to make Ghana proud but failed.

“To be honest, we always tried our best. We worked as hard as possible and we go on the pitch to win. We weren’t able to do that on this occasion but for sure in the future, we are working hard,” he told Joy FM.

“We believe in ourselves and we have to keep going through challenges because football is never straightforward. There are always ups and downs and you have to be able to ride it. You have to have faith in yourself and faith in the team and that is something that we have.”

In their next assignment, the Black Stars are aiming to beat Madagascar in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier as they eye a place in the competition next year.

However, Tariq Lamptey will not be involved as he continues to recover from an injury he sustained a few months ago.
