National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has strongly rejected a Ministry of the Interior report that claims no evidence of violence was received in connection with a death recorded during the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to party supporters in the Awutu Senya East Constituency during his five-day “Thank You” tour of the Central Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah described the Ministry’s position as unacceptable and suggestive of a deliberate agenda.
He accused the report of seeking to shield perpetrators of electoral violence due to personal friendships and other relationships, which he said undermines genuine efforts to promote accountability and deter future incidents.
“We are not kids at this party,” Mr. Asiedu Nketiah declared.
“If we have all agreed that violence relating to elections is not good, we must all endeavour to stop it. We must desist from covering up issues when it comes to violence.”
The NDC chairman referenced violence allegedly linked to the 2024 elections in Kasoa (within the Awutu Senya East area), insisting that evidence exists and that the matter cannot be dismissed lightly.
He further called for punitive measures against both the masterminds and perpetrators of electoral violence documented during the 2020 and 2024 general elections. According to him, such actions are essential to sending a strong message and preventing recurrence.
“I have heard that someone stated that there is no evidence of the electoral violence that took place in Kasoa,” he added.
“The matter will continue to be pursued until those responsible are held accountable. Electoral violence must not be trivialised or ignored.”
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah urged all stakeholders—including political parties, security agencies, and the government—to demonstrate genuine commitment to ending election-related violence in Ghana.
He emphasised the need for transparency, justice, and collective responsibility in upholding peaceful electoral processes.
