We cannot succeed by doing business as usual – Retiring soldier tells security agencies

Call us

The outgoing Commander of the Second Battalion of Infantry, Lt Col Daniel Atobrah Bondah, has cautioned that security agencies cannot succeed by doing business as usual as the current social contract and security environment is different from that of their predecessors.

Speaking at his passing out ceremony at the Apremdo barracks near Takoradi, he called on security personnel to be ingenious and proactive to maintain the sovereignty of the state and ensure that government strategic
objectives are met.

According to Lt. Col. Bondah, there is currently a complex security environment that is highly unpredictable, chaotic, and globalised in nature. He therefore cautioned that the security agencies cannot succeed by doing business as usual.

“We cannot accomplish our assigned tasks and missions without the collective effort of our sister security services and most importantly, the public. In recent times, there seem to be a disconnect in the social contract between the public and the military. However, for those of us in 2 Infantry Battalion, we see ourselves as sons and daughters of the communities we serve. We serve the interest of the state through the dictates of the statesman in times of war and peacetime.”

The general officer commanding southern command, Brigadier General Samuel Yeboah Asare, congratulated the outgoing Commanding Officer, Lt Col Daniel Atobrah Bondah for his exemplary leadership, dedicated service and strong desire for excellence.

“His leadership style and attributes have contributed immensely in navigating the Unit successfully to greater heights. The Unit’s Area of Operational Responsibility (Western and Western North Regions) play host to several socio-economic infrastructure and assets that are associated with numerous security and administrative challenges. Despite these challenges, the resolve of the Unit to contribute to the peace, stability and development of the 2 Regions has been excellent.”

He mentioned some of the achievements of the Unit under his command as: Emerging Overall Best Unit in all competitions organised by HQ South Command, Collaborating with the University of Mines and Technology for certificate programmes for personnel of the Unit and 2 Garrison, Rehabilitation of the barracks roads, Improving barracks security by fencing the entire frontage of the Barracks, Construction of an obstacle course for training, a gymnasium for the Unit, a 14 single room self-contained accommodation block for young soldiers in the Unit as well as the renovation of existing buildings, a Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Guest House, an Outpatient Department and Emergency Ward at the 2 Medical Reception Station as well as Contributing to the peace and security of the Western and Western North Regions among others.

Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Atobrah Bondah was commissioned into the Infantry Corps of the Ghana Army as a Second Lieutenant on 5 September 2003.  Before his appointment as the Commanding Officer of 2 Inf Bn, he was a Directing Staff at the Army Combat Training School. He spent about two and a half years at the unit.

The colorful parade was witnessed by sister security agencies, political heads in the region among others. He is replaced by Ltd. Col. Enn Osae.
