Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama has urged all Ghanaians to eschew hate speech in this election period.

He says there is a need to preserve the peace of the country.

Mr Mahama said this during the signing of the peace pact in Accra on Thursday, November 28.

“It is essential we preserve the peace at this critical times…we have a collective responsibility to ensure our country remains peaceful. Divisive language and intemperate language should not have space ” he said.

He assured that “the NDC is ready to achieve this .”

Ahead of the signing ceremony, the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, told Accra-based Citi FM “So far, we believe that all the parties will be there.

“We have commitments for all of them. We have sent them a copy of the pact for them to study if they have any comments to come back, and so far, we have not had any adverse reactions from any of the parties.”

“And so right now what we are doing is putting down appropriations for the various logistics and the things that need to be done for the signing of the pact.”
