Weapon with 20 rounds of ammunition stolen after policeman falls asleep at duty post

An Ak47 assault riffle loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition was on Sunday night stolen from a policeman who fell asleep while on duty at a check point at Yendi in the Northern Region

Three policemen have since been detained over the missing weapon and are expected to be subjected to a service inquiry.

According to a police situational report, Corporal Frank
Mapram, Lance Corporal Heloo Danies and Lance Corporal Noel Kumadzi were said
to have been stationed at the Yendi-Bimbilla Check point with service rifle
Number 1390 with 20 rounds of ammunition came to the station and reported missing
of the said rifle

According to them whilst at the duty point, the one who was
in possession of the weapon, slept off and when he woke up he did not find the
rifle after diligent search.

All three duty officers were subsequently detained for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, this the second time in less than a week that a second service rifle is reportedly missing from Yendi division.
