Black Princesses head coach, Charles Sampson has expressed elation after his girls managed to secure qualification towards the next round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Ghana U-20 women team delivered a standout performance to edge their South African counterparts by a narrow 1-0 to win the tie following a 2-2 stalemate in the first in Accra last week.

It was a very open encounter at the Mbombela Stadium with both nations starting brightly but substitute Priscilla Mensah’s lone goal in 66th minute was enough to send the Princesses through.

In a post-match interview, enterprising gaffer Charles Simpson heaped praises on his girls and admitted it was a very difficult task especially coming into the return leg when they had drawn at home but still prevailed

“The mood is unbelievable. You could see a lot of emotions, even myself. Jus because the sort of challenges we had in this particular camp was huge,” he said after the game.

“And to come out of that and come and win here and qualify for the next round and so we are so so happy,” he added.

The Black Princesses have always qualified for the World Cup since 2010 and will look to maintain that stellar record when they take on Zambia in the final qualifying round.

The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be hosted in Poland later this year.
