Ghana Sports Online has gained exclusive details on why midfielder Benjamin Afutu has refused to sign a new contract with Hearts of Oak and is set for the exit gates at the club.
Afutu, 24, has just a month left on his running contract at the club and has refused to sign a new deal despite a couple of attempts by the 20-time Ghana Premier League champions.
As a result Hearts have dropped the midfielder from their 18-man squad to face Inter Allies in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday as they embrace their fate of losing the key player.
Ghana Sports Online unwavering sources can reveal that the former Karela United player was on a USD153 a month salary but the Phobians proposed an 85 percent increment which could have put him on a USD273 a month salary but he requested to be put on a USD350 a month salary instead which the club finds rather on a high.
The two sides have been unable to reach a compromise since the stand off and the two parties are set to part ways.
Afutu emerged as one of the top players for the Phobians during last season’s campaign and was widely expected to renew his contract but the latest development means the Phobians have lost him.
Hearts coach Edward Odoom plans to introduce Nigerien midfielder Abdourahamane Mamane Lawali as a partner for Emmanuel Nettey in central midfield.
