Turkey-based midfielder Bernard Mensah has prematurely retired from the Ghana national team due to treatment melted to him by an unnamed international teammate as well as head coach Charles Akonnor, according to reports by Asempa FM.

Andy Obeng Kwaku, an Asempa FM broadcast journalist, claims the former Atletico de Madrid midfielder has poured out details of his he was treated by a teammate and Ghana coach Akonnor during the Black Stars friendly games against Mali and Qatar last month.

According to the reports Akonnor took off the Besiktas midfielder after he rebuked the unnamed teammate for his lackluster display in the 3-0 loss to Mali in Antalya, Turkey. Prior to the incident in the game the two players had had a small bust up in a training session ahead of that game which he started for the West African powerhouse.

Details of the relationship which have been leaked to the media concludes that the former Getafe midfielder was axed from the Ghana squad to play Sudan in the 2021 AFCON qualifying double-header because of his relationship with the unnamed player.

Bernard Mensah has scored once in 4 appearances for the Black Stars after making his debut against Togo in 2015 summer. He announced his retirement from the Ghana national team on Sunday in a tweet which he says he wants to focus on his club career and thanked Ghanaian fans for their support to him.

Ghana Sports Online also understands the midfielder, who is a former teammate of erstwhile Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, might not make a return to the Ghana national team again.
