One of the NDC’s spokespersons on Creative Arts, Baba Sadiq has questioned the rationale behind the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to pay some celebrities just for endorsing them whiles other players in the creative arts industry have slaved for the party for years with nothing to boast about.

There are allegations that the government has paid some celebrities to endorse the President’s second term in office.

But in a post on his Social media platforms, Baba Sadiq indicated that it’s very insensitive why the government will agree to pay some celebrities whiles they starve those who have slaved for the party since it was in opposition.

“It certainly is insensitive to neglect hardworking members of your party from the same industry as these celebrities who slaved for you in opposition and continue to slave for you and pay these celebrities ahead of them when you are expecting them to be out there even with your neglect to be campaigning for you. It’s certainly is insensitive to a whole industry when you couldn’t deliver a single of the 18 promises you made to their sector, neglect their cause, make them worse off and choose and pay some amongst them to endorse you.”

I am glad that, personalities from the creative industry are exercising their rights and becoming political activists. Atleast, it goes a long way to erase that perception that, people from the creative industry do not have a place in political activism and that’s progress.

However it smacks off a little insensitivity when this is done at the expense of the taxpayer who is yet to feel so much of what this government promised. It’s certainly is insensitive to Ghanaian citizens when you borrow in excess of $ 20 billion dollars, have a total resource envelope of Ghc 374 million cedis, have three oil fields, inherit innovative sources of funds like the ESLA which helped solved Dumsor permanently, Heritage funds, emergency stabilisation funds, Infrastructure fund etc and do not have much to show for it but pay celebrities heavy sum to endorse you less than two months to elections.

It certainly is insensitive to neglect hardworking members of your party from the same industry as these celebrities who slaved for you in opposition and continue to slave for you and pay these celebrities ahead of them when you are expecting them to be out there even with your neglect to be campaigning for you. It’s certainly is insensitive to a whole industry when you couldn’t deliver a single of the 18 promises you made to their sector, neglect their cause, make them worse off and choose and pay some amongst them to endorse you.

Remember the people do not forget. They see who you prioritised over their needs. Who you chose to pay heavily to endorse you whilst neglecting them and they will equally exercise their right on Dec 7th.
