Western North Celebrates International Women’s Day

The United Nations theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.” International Women’s Day 2025 also has the theme of #AccelerateAction.

This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a landmark document outlining critical areas for gender equality.

The theme emphasizes the ongoing need to ensure that all women and girls have their rights, equality, and empowerment realised.

It underscores the importance of continuing to work towards gender equality.

In Ghana, it is a day to recognise women’s achievements and contributions to society.

The Nketesia Hemaa of Sefwi Kessekrom, Ruth Akosua Mintah, has expressed gratitude to the women around the Western North Region and mother Ghana for their resilience towards national development.

Akosua Mintah has urged women to collaborate for equal participation and leadership in public life, which is essential to achieving better growth for the country’s young generation.

The Nketesia Hemaa advised women to be self-reliant and do something for a better future to support their vision.

Assembly members also shared their views. They emphasised that women should be courageous and hopeful for everything good, and asked them to look up to Ghana’s first female vice president, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and other enterprising women worldwide, as their role models, and aspire for greatness.

They also continue to advise women to champion themselves in everything they do, reject fear and panic and believe that ‘what a man can do, a woman can also do and even better.’
