Saudi Arabia and Uruguay played out a 1-1 draw in an entertaining Group H clash at the Hard Rock Stadium, with both sides settling for a point in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Green Falcons made the brighter start and were rewarded when Al Nassr defender Abdulelah Al-Amri opened the scoring to hand the Saudis a deserved lead.
Uruguay struggled to break down a disciplined Saudi defence for much of the contest, but the South Americans kept pushing in search of an equaliser.
Their persistence finally paid off with ten minutes remaining when Maximiliano Araújo found the back of the net to restore parity for La Celeste.
Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages as the points were shared in a result that leaves Group H finely poised.
The draw follows the other Group H encounter between Spain and World Cup debutants Cape Verde, which also ended goalless.
Saudi Arabia will now prepare for a difficult test against Spain on June 21, while Uruguay will face Cape Verde on the same day as both teams continue their quest for a place in the knockout stages.
