Switzerland booked their place in the quarter-final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating Colombia 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw at BC Place.

The round of 16 encounter failed to live up to expectations, with both teams cancelling each other out for much of the game.

Colombia enjoyed slightly more possession and created the better openings, but Switzerland remained disciplined at the back.

Neither side could find the breakthrough in regulation time as the match ended 0-0, sending the contest into extra time.

Both teams showed greater attacking intent during the additional 30 minutes and came close to finding the winning goal, but neither could make their chances count.

The tie was eventually decided by a penalty shootout, where Switzerland held their nerve to claim a 4-3 victory and eliminate the South Americans.

The Swiss will now face defending champions Argentina in the quarter-final as they continue their quest for a first-ever FIFA World Cup title.
