Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan says Ghana will try their best to qualify for their fifth World Cup despite being handed a tricky group at the draw which took place on Thursday afternoon.

Ghana will face Mali alongside, familiar foes, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros, and Chad after being paired in Group I.

Gyan was among the African football legends who conducted the draw which was held in Ivory Coast and is hoping the Black Stars have what it takes to sail through.

The 37-year-old is sure of Ghana’s chances despite their recent form dip and dismal performances.

“It is not going to be easy because the expectation is high back home. We will try our possible best to make sure we also qualify.”

“Since we qualified to the World Cup for the first time in 2006, we are getting used to the World Cup,” Gyan said

“We’ll do our best to qualify for the tournament.”

Gyan announced his retirement a few weeks ago with the record of the most goals by an African at the global showpiece. He also holds the record as the all-time top scorer of the Black Stars with 51 goals in 109 appearances.

Ghana are the only team among their opponents to have made it to the World Cup and are aiming to earn their fifth qualification and put up a better show compared to their previous.

They were eliminated in the group stage of their last two appearances in the 2014 and 2022 World Cups.

The winner of each of the nine groups of six will secure automatic qualification to the World Cup, while the four best runners-up from the groups will compete in a mini-play-off competition.

The tournament winner will go to an intercontinental play-off and might become the 10th African team to qualify for the competition.
