The government of Ghana has announced plans to redevelop the country’s most popular parks and museums, including the Aburi Botanical Gardens, the Yaa Asantewaa Museum, and the Salaga and Pikworo Slavery Camps, to boost tourism.
The announcement was made by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta during his mid-year budget statement in parliament on Monday, July 31, 2023.
“The Kwame Nkrumah memorial Park ,which was redeveloped with support from the World Bank and other partners will boost  domestic and heritage tourism and is expected to attract over 1 million tourists annually. Gov’t will continue with the redevelopment of Aguri botanical gardens ,Malaga and Pikworo Slavery Camps and the Yaa Asantewaa Mausoleum to boost domestic tourism.” He said
“In partnership with the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board,efforts will continue to renovate selected  Forts ,Castles and Museums across the Country”.He added
The Aburi Botanical Gardens are located in the Aburi Hills, about 30 kilometers from Accra. The gardens were founded in 1890 and are home to a wide variety of plants, including over 1,500 species of trees.
The gardens are also a popular tourist destination, attracting over 100,000 visitors each year.
The Yaa Asantewaa Museum, located in the Ejisu Municipal District of Ghana, was built to honor Ashanti leader Yaa Asantewaa, who was the queen mother of Ejisu
