A 24-year-old Ghanaian man, identified as Joseph Owusu, has been found dead at a dumpsite in the Bronx, New York, about two weeks after he was reported missing.
Owusu’s body was reportedly discovered among refuse by a scrap collector, with news of his death emerging on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
He was a member and organist of the Ghana United Methodist Church in the Bronx, where he was remembered as a dedicated musician whose service and warm personality endeared him to the congregation.
His death has plunged members of the Ghanaian community in New York into mourning, coming days after the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong in the same borough.
Frimpong was shot dead on October 29, 2026, while reportedly on his way to school. He was allegedly chased before being shot near Crotona Park and later died at a hospital.
Police were initially reported to be searching for three teenage suspects in connection with the shooting, with no arrests announced at the time.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured Frimpong’s family of government support and appropriate consular assistance, adding that it would work with US authorities to pursue justice.
The circumstances surrounding Owusu’s disappearance and death remain unclear.
