A British court has sentenced a Polish truck driver to 13 and a half years in prison after he was caught smuggling cocaine worth an estimated £7m ($9.4m) hidden inside a shipment of Skims clothing, authorities have said.

The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) said 40-year-old Jakub Jan Konkel was stopped by border officers at a port in Essex in September while transporting 28 pallets of clothing from the Netherlands linked to Kim Kardashian’s shapewear brand, Skims.

Investigators said Konkel had collected about 90kg of cocaine during the journey and concealed the drugs inside a specially modified compartment built into the rear doors of the truck. The NCA stressed that the clothing shipment itself was legitimate and that neither the exporter nor importer was involved in the smuggling operation.

According to the agency, Konkel admitted he had agreed to transport the drugs in exchange for €4,500 ($5,243). Following his sentencing at Chelmsford Crown Court, NCA operations manager Paul Orchard said organised crime groups often exploit drivers moving genuine cargo to traffic illegal drugs, adding that the seizure had disrupted the criminal network behind the operation.
