Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, Gomoa Central MP, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Ghana Police Service, demanding an update on the investigation into the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale. In a Facebook post on January 14, 2025, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central accused a high-ranking minister from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration of being behind the killing.
A Plus recalled an encounter on July 15, 2024, when he was invited by the police to assist in the investigation. During the meeting, he identified a key minister from the previous government, claiming the minister had hired assailants to carry out the murder. A Plus also revealed that his source, described as highly credible, was present during the meeting with the CID director.
Accusing the police of failing to make progress in the case, A Plus demanded they provide a public update or risk being summoned to Parliament. “It’s important for the CID director to update the public on the investigation’s progress and explain whether more time is needed,” he said. “It seems the case has been sidelined. If no update is provided within 48 hours, I will use my parliamentary authority to summon the Ghana Police Service to brief Parliament. If that doesn’t happen, I will share everything I know on social media, including the name of the alleged perpetrator.”
Ahmed Suale, a journalist with Tiger Eye P.I., an investigative group led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was shot and killed in Accra on January 16, 2019, in what appeared to be a contract killing. Despite public outcry and calls for justice, no arrests or convictions have been made, and the case remains unsolved.
A Plus’s bold ultimatum has reignited public interest in the case, with many urging the police to take stronger action to bring the killers to justice.
