Ghana defender Abdul Mumin has revealed that Girona’s playing style was the decisive factor in his decision to join the Spanish Segunda side on a three-year deal. The 28-year-old centre-back arrived on a free transfer after four seasons with Rayo Vallecano, and in his first interview, he explained why the Catalan club was the right fit for the next phase of his career.”The main thing that attracted me to Girona, I think it’s the club itself. I think it’s a club with a lot of history, and the type of football that they play is very attractive,” Mumin said.”I believe that all footballers that want to improve in their professional career, it’s a project they will look up to.”Mumin’s four-year spell at Rayo Vallecano was disrupted by injury, with a cruciate ligament issue limiting him to just three appearances in the 2025/26 season. Although he recovered in time to be named in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, he did not feature in the tournament. His move to Girona offers a fresh start. The club’s sporting project and style of play convinced him to commit to the Catalan side, who are aiming for promotion back to La Liga. With Girona reshuffling their defensive options following the departures of Vitor Reis and Daley Blind, Mumin’s arrival is seen as a key addition to bring solidity and experience to the backline.
