Accra Hearts of Oak, a Ghana Premier League club, has appointed Ivorian coach Aboubakar Ouattara as their new head coach.

The decision, according to Alhaji Akambi, a prominent member of the club’s board, comes from the desire to reclaim their position at the summit of African football and compete in the prestigious CAF Champions League.

Speaking to Richard Ntow Gyan on Fox FM in Kumasi, Akambi discussed the rationale behind Ouattara’s selection. He emphasized the importance of finding a coach whose vision aligned with the club’s ambitions, particularly in their pursuit of continental success.

“There are a lot of things a team will look at before appointing a coach. Ghanaian coaches are equally good coaches, but they’re a lot of philosophies and other things we considered,” he said.

“Looking at our idea of taking Hearts of Oak to the days where we conquered Africa, we needed a coach who had that experience. If you look at Ouattara, he has coached a lot of clubs in Africa and has won Champions League. When we played against WAC, he was with them. So he has the things we needed,”
