Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz has hailed the Black Stars as a “fantastic group” as the four-time African champions prepare to begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The 73-year-old Portuguese guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the 2026 World Cup in North America, the country’s best performance at the tournament since reaching the quarter-finals in 2010.
With World Cup qualification behind them, Queiroz is now turning his attention to securing a return to the AFCON finals.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s website, the veteran coach said the World Cup journey had strengthened his belief in the squad.
“Very important. We worked intensively on the entire process we went through during the World Cup,” Queiroz said.
“It was an experience that gave us a deep understanding of the players, their qualities and their character.
“We have a fantastic group and a fantastic national-team culture.
“I am a very proud coach to be part of this group.”
Ghana open their qualifying campaign with a demanding trip to Bouak to face Cte d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix on 24 September.
The Black Stars will then host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on 27 September as Queiroz looks to build early momentum in Group C.
They will conclude the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October.
The squad has already opened camp in Accra ahead of the three matches.
