AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Ghana must be better prepared for next games, says Carlos Queiroz after Gambia defeat

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz says the Black Stars must be better prepared and better organised after suffering a second consecutive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.The Black Stars threw away a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, leaving them without a point from their opening two Group C matches.Ghana had been hoping to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat by Cte dIvoire in their opening qualifier in Bouak last Thursday.Despite taking control of the game by moving 2-0 ahead, the Black Stars collapsed in the second half as The Gambia fought back to claim all three points.Queiroz rejected the suggestion that the defeat represented a step backwards for his team, insisting Ghana must focus on improving and winning their upcoming matches.We cannot say it is a step back. What we can do is to be better prepared, better organised for the next games and win the next games. This is what we have to get done, he said after the game.The result leaves the four-time African champions at the bottom of Group C without a point from their first two matches.Ghana now face a difficult task to revive their qualification campaign and secure a place at the 2027 AFCON tournament.The Black Stars will return to action in October with a double-header against Somalia at the Accra Sports Stadium as they look to get their campaign back on track.Ghana are seeking to return to the continental showpiece after missing the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
