Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah has guided Sudan to a crucial 1-0 win over Ethiopia in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).The coach and his side opened their campaign to next years AFCON on Friday, hosting Ethiopia at Juba Stadium.In the Group J contest, both teams set up strongly in their quest to claim the first three points of the qualification campaign.Despite the best efforts of the two teams, neither side could find the back of the net at the end of the first half.After recess, Sudan took control of the contest while weathering the storm created by Ethiopia.Late in the 86th minute, Sudan finally got the breakthrough, scoring through Mohamed Eisa from the spot to take the lead.With little time left, Ethiopia could not find a way back as they succumbed to a narrow defeat away from home.The result gives Sudan early control in Group J. They sit top of the group with three points, leading Senegal and Mozambique, who drew in the other match.Up next for Sudan, they will travel away to Mozambique in a tricky clash next week.
