The Amasaman High Court has reduced the custodial sentence handed to controversial evangelist and former traditional priestess Nana Agradaa, ruling that although her conviction was lawful, the punishment initially imposed was harsh and excessive.

She was initially jailed for 15 years with hard labour.

In its decision, the court adjusted her sentence to 12 calendar months, to be calculated from the date of her conviction on July 3, 2025. This means the conviction itself remains fully intact, but the duration of the sentence has been moderated to reflect what the court described as a more proportionate punishment.

The ruling followed a review of the circumstances surrounding the case, during which the court acknowledged that while Nana Agradaa was rightly found guilty of the offences she was charged with, the original sentence went beyond what was reasonably necessary to serve the ends of justice.

The court emphasised that sentencing must not only punish wrongdoing but must also be fair, balanced, and consistent with established legal principles.
