Ghanaian content creator Kelvin Sampene, known widely as Akonoba, has shared his inspiring journey to digital fame, where he has amassed over a million followers on TikTok. His popularity largely stems from his entertaining content that mimics the nuances of Ghanaian women.
In a candid interview with Emelia Brobbey on the Okukuseku show, Akonoba addressed the misconceptions surrounding his work, particularly the backlash he faces for his cross-dressing performances.
He clarified that for him, content creation is primarily a business venture rather than a personal expression of femininity.
Initially, wearing makeup and women’s clothing for brand advertisements proved challenging, but the financial rewards helped him push through the negativity. “People think I feel good about it. This is what I eat from, and I won’t let anyone bring me down,” Akonoba stated in his recent interview.
His determination to succeed in the face of adversity showcases his commitment to his craft and highlights the complexities of his role as a content creator in Ghana.
