Legendary Highlife songstress, Akosua Agyapong has stated that she will organize Nima boys to prevent executives of Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) from attending the one-week observation of late legendary highlife musician Kwadwo Akwaboa SNR.
Kwadwo Akwaboah who churned hit song dubbed ‘Awerekyekyere’ died on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, after a short illness.
When the veteran musician’s death was announced, Akosua Agyapong while paying a tribute to the legendary singer alleged that GHAMRO only raised GHC250 when the former wanted money for medication.
However, in a recent interview on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Akosua Agyapong alleged that many times GHAMRO’s executives cheat and neglect musicians when they are so much in need and would rather use the chunk of the musicians’ royalties on themselves.
She therefore vowed to do whatever within her power to prevent the executives from attending the One-Week Observation.
“The collectors of the Organization’s royalties received GH¢433,000 as commission as of GHAMRO’s 2021 annual report,” Akosua Agyapong revealed.
The musician indicated that the 2021 report also revealed that GHAMRO’s executives received GH¢132,000 as sitting allowance and refreshment for their board meetings.
“If it so happens that in the case of Kwadwo Akwaboah who told me before his death that he only received GH¢250 as royalties, what does that amount to, if not cheating?” Akosua Agyapong wondered.
She said that she will have no choice but to organize some Nima boys to stop any executive member from showing up at the One Week Funeral observation slated for Tuesday, May 30at his hometown Trede in the Ashanti Region.
