President Akufo-Addo’s statue which was vandalized by unknown persons has been repaired.

The statue, unveiled by the President himself, had sparked widespread discontent among residents of Sekondi-Takoradi and beyond, with many, especially the youth, vowing to relocate it.

The damaged section of the statue, located at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital Roundabout, has been fixed.

According to eyewitnesses, the repair work was done on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, around 4:00pm by two gentlemen and a lady. A police officer was also spotted providing security at the scene around 6:00pm.

Kwame Abeka, a washing bay attendant, recounted: “It was in the afternoon when I saw the statue being maintained. I noticed a lady and two gentlemen working on it. Later, when I was heading home, I saw a police officer standing nearby, providing security.”

Nana Adwoa Banko, a roasted plantain vendor near the roundabout, added: “Yesterday, one of them arrived early, between 2:30 pm and 3:00pm, and sat here.”

“Later, I saw two more people join them. Around 4:00pm, I saw them repairing the broken leg of the statue. During the repair work, I noticed a police officer standing nearby, asking them questions. Although I couldn’t hear the exact questions, the officer eventually left the scene.”

Here in Sekondi Takoradi, it appears that the public’s attention has shifted away from the controversy surrounding President Akufo-Addo’s statue. Interestingly, the identity of the individual or group responsible for repairing the statue remains unknown.
