Ghanaian gospel acappella group Alabaster Box has secured permission from the Accra High Court to serve rapper, Samuel Adu Frimpong widely known as Medikal through alternative means in their ongoing copyright case.

The ruling, issued by Justice John Bosco Nabarese, follows failed attempts by the group to deliver legal documents to the rapper using standard procedures.

With no success in reaching him, the court, on June 12, approved a motion filed by Alabaster Box on May 26, requesting substituted service.

Under the new arrangement, Medikal can now be served via digital and public notice channels. These include notices pinned on the High Court’s public board in Accra, as well as direct messages through his official social media accounts: Facebook (Medikal), Instagram (@amgmedikal), and X (@AmgMedikal). His manager, Kofi Jam, is also to receive a copy of the documents through WhatsApp.

The court has instructed that these alternative service channels be maintained for 21 days.

The legal battle began in April 2025, when Alabaster Box accused the award-winning rapper of lifting elements from their hit track Akwaaba without consent. The group claims Medikal’s song Welcome to Africa borrows the intro and lyrical style of their original, with notable similarities in both the title and early verses.
