Ghanaian midfielder Alfred Duncan’s new club, Venezia FC, has been saved from financial ruin thanks to a massive $40 million investment led by rapper Drake.

Duncan, who joined Venezia FC this summer after leaving Fiorentina, signed a contract until the end of the 2025/2026 season, with an option for renewal.

The historic Italian side, founded in 1907, faced bankruptcy after accumulating substantial debt following their brief return to Serie A. Desperate to keep the club afloat, owner Brad Katsuyama reached out to Matte Babel, a member of Drake’s management team. Babel and Drake swiftly mobilized North American investors, securing the necessary funds within just two weeks.

Drake’s involvement not only brought crucial financial support but also global attention to Venezia FC. The club plans to use the new funds to invest in talent and upgrade facilities, with improvements expected by the 2027/28 season. Duncan’s arrival marks a new era for the club as they aim to achieve success in the upcoming season.
