The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare says the police will stop at nothing to ensure law and order in the December 7 polls.
The IGP, while leading a team of top police officers visited some churches in Accra on Sunday to engage the members, urged them to be vessels of peace.
The Inspector General of Police within the last one week has been engaging a number of religious bodies. His second assignment after visiting the Muslim Community on Friday was a visit to some churches in Accra.
The IGP and his team fist visited the Church of Pentecost at Accra Newtown, then proceeded to the Methodist Church at Kpeehe at Caprice.
He entreated members of the clergy to also be vessels for peace.
“Now that we pray, we should allow ourselves as vessels that God will use in bringing peace. Security, law and order during this election period and beyond is what we need. And until we do that then the prayers will end up being mere words, because it’s not backed by action. It is for this reason that I want to ask, after you pray, to do four main things for us during this election period and beyond.
First and foremost, continue to pray for us because that one we need it and it is your prayer that will give us the wisdom and the grace, once we position ourselves as a vessel for God, for us to take the necessary steps in protecting the nation and ensuring that there is peaceful election.
“Secondly, as you have prayed for yourself, also take the step to make sure that you don’t become a source of disturbances in this country. The third thing, you pray that nobody also takes the law into his or her own hands and mess up the peace of this country. The fourth point to bring with you, you pray that you don’t want anything to happen to the peace of this country”. He stressed.
At the Holy Spirit Cathedral at asylum down, the IGP also urged Ghanaians to assist the police in identifying individuals who may seek to disrupt peace during the December 7 elections.
He underscored the critical role of community involvement in ensuring law and order, stressing that public vigilance is essential for safeguarding the nation’s stability.
The Cathedral administrator of the Holy Spirit Cathedral Very Rev Father Clement Wilson offered prayers for the Police Management Board (POMAB).
Other places the IGP visited include the Assemblies of God Church and the Police Church, all in Accra.
