The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Anthony Baffoe has withdrawn from the five-member committee tasked with finding a new Black Stars coach.

Baffoe was appointed to the committee alongside former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, legal practitioner Agbesi Dzakpasu and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah.

The committee is chaired by Fred Pappoe.

The members were tasked with recommending a substantive head coach for the senior men’s national team following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.

However, the GFA’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has revealed that Baffoe withdrew from the committee.

“The chairman of the search committee, Fred Pappoe, confirmed to the Executive Council that Anthony was not part of the committee. This is based on the last meeting they held, which was last week Thursday, which I was present for,” he told Max FM.

“There was no reason given. All he said was that Tony had withdrawn. He mentioned that the four of them have been doing the job since they were sworn into office.”

The four-member committee subsequently settled on Black Queens coach Kim Lars Björkegren as head coach, with Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram serving as his assistants on a temporary basis.

Ghana will face Somalia on 11 November before playing the return leg four days later.

Meanwhile, Baffoe, who is the General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), said “you never know tomorrow” when asked about the possibility of contesting for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association.
