Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has called on Ghanaians both at home and in the diaspora to unite behind the Black Stars as the country prepares for the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In an emotional message shared ahead of the tournament, the former Black Stars captain congratulated the 26-man squad selected for the global showpiece and urged the players to believe in themselves.

“The Black Stars are our brand. Our pride. Our only product,” Gyan wrote. “To the 26 warriors named for the World Cup: Congratulations. The nation believes in you. I believe in you, just like my golden generation believed in the Blazers.”

Ghana’s all-time leading scorer also appealed to supporters to put aside their differences and rally behind the national team, insisting that football remains the greatest unifying force in the country.

“To Ghana and all Ghanaians in the diaspora: let’s put our differences behind us. Football is the greatest game that unites us. Let’s come together once again and give ultimate support to the Black Stars.”

The 39-year-old, who remains Africa’s all-time leading scorer at the FIFA World Cup with six goals, said the tournament presents another opportunity to showcase Ghana to the world.

“We have another opportunity to market the Ghana brand through the World Cup. Let’s do it again,” he added.

Gyan also thanked President John Mahama, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, the Ghana Football Association, the media and supporters for their collective efforts in backing the national team.

He concluded his message with words of encouragement to the players, saying: “Win, lose, or draw, we’ll all be smiling together if we stand as one. Go make us proud, boys. Ghana is behind you.”

The Black Stars will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England and Croatia in their remaining Group L matches.
