Ghana’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama in Toronto on Wednesday will be attended by a host of distinguished personalities, highlighting the significance of the Black Stars’ return to football’s biggest stage.
Leading the Ghanaian delegation is the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, whose presence is expected to inspire the team as they begin their Group L campaign in Canada.
Also confirmed for the match are Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie. Chief of Staff Alex Segbefia and senior government official Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo will represent the Office of the Vice President.
Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams is also expected to attend the crucial fixture.
The football fraternity will be represented by former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and Ghana legend Samuel Osei Kuffour, both of whom played prominent roles during their international careers.
Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Canada will be represented by Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, while acclaimed American actor Anthony Mackie is also expected to be present.
The Black Stars will be aiming to reward their high-profile supporters with victory against Panama.
