Atalanta have completed the signing of Ghanaian forward Kamaldeen Sulemana from Southampton, finalizing a deal worth €17.5 million in installments plus €4 million in add-ons and performance bonuses. Southampton will also retain a 15% sell-on clause for any future transfer involving the player.
Since joining Southampton in January 2023, Sulemana’s journey has been a rollercoaster. Initially signed for a significant fee, he struggled to meet expectations early on but showed marked improvement last season. Despite Southampton’s poor campaign, finishing bottom of the Premier League with just 12 points and two wins, Sulemana emerged as one of the team’s standout attacking players.
During the 2024-25 season, Sulemana made 26 league appearances, scoring once and providing one assist. Across all competitions, he featured 30 times, scoring twice and contributing three assists, demonstrating his potential as a dynamic winger. His performances attracted interest from Atalanta, where former Southampton manager Ivan Juric is now in charge and eager to reunite with the Ghanaian forward.
The move to Atalanta offers Sulemana an exciting new chapter in Serie A, where he will compete in one of Europe’s top leagues and have the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League next season. This transfer represents a significant step up for the 23-year-old. Atalanta’s acquisition of Sulemana underscores their ambition to strengthen their squad with young, talented players capable of making an impact both domestically and in Europe.
