Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday commissioned the newly constructed Astro-turf by Ghana National Gas Company at New Juaben South in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
The commissioning of the project, which is fully financed by Ghana Gas, attracted the youth and people from the New Juaben Constituency to catch a glimpse the park, which adds up to already 12 existing Astro-turfs in the Region.
The existing projects, which are located at Koforidua Betom, Nyamekrom, Adweso, and Sarkodie among others, are at various stages of completion.
The project at New Juaben is being implemented by Ghana National Gas Company through the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi.
The Vice President, who was on a tour of the Region, also cut the sod for the construction of a third astro turf at Koforidua Zongo.
He also inspected the progress of work on the Nyamekrom Polyclinic and commissioned a modern police post at the Koforidua Technical University and visited party delegates on his campaign tour.
“This beautiful astro-turf you see here is a dream of the president that the youth of this country will get befitting turfs to train so Ghana can unearth talents.
“It is possible; we’re determined to build a strong foundation of sports in the various communities,” he said.
Manager at the Community Relations Department of Ghana Gas Anyimah Edomgbole expressed optimism that the gas company will add up a second phase in the form of changing rooms and spectators’ stands to the project.
“The vision of the President of the Republic is in line with that of the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ben Asante, of the gas company that the gas company will continue to support the various communities through Sports, Education, Health and Water and Sanitation,” he revealed.
The New Juaben Astro-turf is among the many projects constructed by the gas company in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
