Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said that government will reconstruct part of the Madina Market which was gutted by fire.
Government will also provide funding to the owners of the shops who have lost their wares.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia made this promise when he visited the Madina Market. Later, he presented a sum of GHC200,000 to support victims of the fire outbreak.
“Not long ago, I was told that fire had gutted the Madina Market, and I said I will come and empathize with you, so I asked them to come and check and later we got a contractor to do an estimate and they said they can build a new market for you, 120, shops and small shops will also be built.”
“After the re-building, we will get you funding from the Ghana enterprise agency to start your business. Please try and have a fire insurance to help protect your items, let’s also get qualified electricians to do it for us,” he said.
He also assured ‘Kayayei’ of hostels to accommodate them.
“We have built the hostels, one at Madina here and other at Ashaiman, so I am imploring the market queens to help me and I will also help you,” he requested.
It would be recalled that the Madina market was gutted on Saturday, April, 13, 2024.
