Berekum Chelsea’s head coach, Samuel Boadu, has been formally charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for misconduct following his team’s recent FA Cup semi-final defeat to Asante Kotoko at Tarkwa TNA Stadium. The charges stem from alleged inappropriate behavior towards match officials after the game, which has sparked controversy within Ghana football circles.
The GFA, in an official statement issued on May 13, 2025, confirmed that Boadu violated certain regulations, specifically Article 12(1)(i) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, and Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. The charges relate to his conduct immediately following the match, where tensions reportedly escalated over refereeing decisions.
According to the statement, Boadu approached the referees in an aggressive and angry manner, using inappropriate gestures that are deemed misconduct. The FA Prosecutor pointed out that such actions could tarnish the reputation of the game and are considered a breach of the principles of sportsmanship and respect for officials. The incident occurred as emotions ran high after the final whistle, amid concerns over refereeing calls.
The Ghana Football Association emphasized that Boadu’s conduct is contrary to the core values of discipline and respect that they aim to promote in Ghanaian football. The association highlighted that such behavior undermines efforts to uphold integrity and decorum within the sport, which are vital for the development of the game.
Boadu has until Thursday, May 15, 2025, to respond to the charges. If found guilty, he could face a range of penalties, including fines, a ban from the touchline, or even a suspension from all football-related activities, depending on the severity of the misconduct. The case continues to draw attention as Ghana football seeks to maintain discipline and respect among its stakeholders.
