New Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has expressed his desire to create a winning team during his unveiling ceremony on Monday in Kumasi.

Hughton, who has signed a contract until December 31, 2024, spoke about his goal for the team, saying, “We want to see a winning team because there will be lots of questions on our style of football. Why is this player not playing and why is this player playing? Are you too defensive, are you too offensive? But ultimately what we want to see is winning football.”

“Let’s start with the correct preparation of the team,  using the players to the best of their ability and picking a team that suits the type of players that we have.”

“So I think we as coaches start on the same level. To group the players to start as a team and to win football matches.”

Hughton brings a wealth of experience to his first top position in African football, having previously managed teams in the Premier League and the English Championship. He has been tasked with rebuilding the Black Stars and returning the team to glory days.

The former Northern Ireland international is eager to hit the ground running and has a tough test ahead, with his first game in charge coming up on Thursday against Angola in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
