Five-Member search committeePicture source: Sporty FMA five-member committee tasked with recommending a successor to Carlos Queiroz as Ghana head coach is expected to submit its report to the Sports Ministry today.The committee was formed last week following a meeting between the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after Queiroz stepped down as Black Stars coach.The Portuguese resigned after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats in their opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.The Black Stars lost 2-0 away to Ivory Coast before suffering a 4-2 defeat by The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.Those results have left Ghana bottom of Group C without a point after two matches, putting their hopes of qualifying for the tournament under early pressure.The committee is chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe, with former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, Faisal Chibsah and Agbesi Dzakpasu also among its members.Following the submission of the report, the Sports Ministry and the GFA are expected to deliberate on the recommendations before deciding on Queiroz’s replacement.Meanwhile, reports in the local media suggest Ghana could appoint an interim coach to oversee the Black Stars’ two-legged qualifying tie against Somalia in November, with both matches scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.Former Ghana international Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko have emerged as leading candidates for the temporary role, although no official appointment has been announced.Ghana are seeking to revive their qualifying campaign after failing to reach the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.The absence marked the Black Stars’ first failure to qualify for the continental tournament in more than two decades, adding to the pressure on the team to secure a place at the 2027 finals.With four qualifying matches remaining, Ghana will need a strong response in their upcoming fixtures to keep their hopes of reaching the tournament alive.
